										<watermark ana="yes">The watermark is a simple jug with one handle.
											<p>The details are:

											<p>The watermark on the added bifolium is a countermark, "PDB", most likely of a coat of arms of Amsterdam. <note>Cf. e.g. 
											<ref>AM 716 a 4to</ref>.</note></p>
									<foliation ana="later pag">There is later pagination in black ink in the top outer corners (1-4).</foliation>
										<p>There are two singletons. <note>During later repair, the leaves were joined to a bifolium.
											Originally, they formed the first two leaves in a quaternion, most of which is now found in
											<ref>AM 716 a 4to</ref>.</note>
										<signatures>There is a stain in the colour of the ink used in the bottom margin of fol. <locus>1r</locus>.
										It seems unlikely that this used to be a quire signature.</signatures>
										<catchwords>There are catchwords on every page.</catchwords>
									<condition><p>The leaves have darkened considerably.</p>
										<p>There are dirt and many stains throughout the manuscript.</p>
										<p>Fol. <locus>1r</locus> is even darker and shows more stains than the other pages. <note>It used to be on the outside of
										a quire, if not of the manuscript.</note></p>
										<p>The leaves are untrimmed.</p>
										<p>Some leaves have been repaired in the lower outer corner, at the fore-edge and close to the spine.</p>
										<p>The ink of the added text on fol. <locus>2v</locus> bleeds strongly through the paper. <note>The same ink 
										was used to write the note on the added bifolium and is also found in <ref>AM 716 a 4to</ref>.</note></p>

							<additions><p>A later hand has crossed out the word <q>Fyrsta</q> in the rubric using darker ink.<!-- possibly not the same ink as in 
							the other addition, because this ink seems less wet and does not bleed.--></p>
								<p>A later hand has added a few words to the middle of fol. <locus>1r</locus>. Since the dark ink is smeared, 
									the text is illegible.</p>
								<p>On fol. <locus>2v</locus>, <name type="person" key="ArnMag001">Árni Magnússon</name> has crossed out the
									catchword and has added the last ca. 1.5 lines of the poem. <note>The same words used to be on top of fol. <locus>1r</locus>
								of <ref>AM 716 a 4to</ref>,
								but there they were crossed out with the same grey ink.</note></p>
								<p>A later hand has added stanza numbers in dark ink, mostly at the top and bottom of the pages.</p></additions>
							<bindingDesc><binding><p>The manuscript is bound in a modern half binding with fabric on the boards. That binding was made in Copenhagen in
								<date when="1978">1978</date> before the manuscript came to Iceland.</p>
								<p>Before, the manuscript was bound in a grey cardboard binding from the period <date notBefore="1771" notAfter="1780">1771-1780</date>.
								The older binding has the title and the shelfmark (including the letter) written onto the front cover using dark brown ink.
								There are two stickers for the shelfmark and the running number on the spine. The pastedown is made from printed material.
								The older binding is stored together with the manuscript.</p></binding>

								<p>A <locus from="accMat01r" to="accMat01v">bifolium</locus>
									(<dimensions type="slip" unit="mm"><height>204</height><width>163</width></dimensions>) 
									is located in front and in the back of the manusript so that it surrounds the leaves of the manuscript. 
									<name key="ArnMag001" type="person">Árni
										Magnússon</name> has written on the recto-side of the front part: 
								<p>A loose slip with information on the restoration done in Copenhagen
									is kept in front of the manuscript. It reads: <q>AM 716 b 4to <p>Restaureret og indbundet af Birgitte Dall
								december 1978</p> Vedlagt: gammelt bind.</q> </p>
								<p>The codicological unit was written in <origPlace key="IS">Iceland</origPlace>. 
									Kålund dates it to the <origDate
										notBefore="1601" notAfter="1700">seventeenth century</origDate>
									<bibl><ref target="KKKat">Katalog II</ref>, 
										<biblScope unit="page">135</biblScope></bibl>.</p>
								<p>It is hitherto unknown how or when the larger manuscript, of which this was a part,
									came into the possession of
									<name type="person" role="owner" key="ArnMag001">Árni Magnússon</name>.
