                                    <condition><p>There are many stains and some leaves have been repaired, mostly close to the spine.</p> 
                                        <p>The paper has darkened and the
                                        script is unclear in some areas.</p> 
                                        <p>On the lower part of the fore-edge of the first
                                            leaves, there is a large characteristic stain.</p>
                                        <p>The leaves have been trimmed so that some catchwords are cut off.</p> 
                                    <p>The spine (binding) is in rather bad condition.</p></condition>

                                <handNote scribeRef="unknown" scope="sole" script="kurrent">The scribe, who's initials may be "EH" (according to the colophon),
                                wrote most of the text in kurrent script. On fol. <locus>86v</locus>, the beginning of the 38th ríma is in chancery script.
                                Most rubrics and first lines of text are in chancery script.

                            <decoDesc><decoNote type="initial">Most of the initials span 2-3 lines and are decorated with additional lines and
                                floral ornaments. The first initial correlates to ca. 7 lines and is decorated in a more elaborated manner than the other initials.</decoNote>
                            <decoNote type="paratext">The first lines of sections and rubrics are written in chancery script.</decoNote></decoDesc>
                            <additions><p>In the margins, the scribe has written initials in order to indicate the speaker.</p>
                                <p>On the back flyleaf, 13 strips have been attached, which were taken out of the binding during restoration.
                                    The strips are made from both printed and handwritten material.</p>
                            <p>On fol. <locus>5v</locus>, <q>ion min<ex>n</ex></q> can be read in the margin.</p></additions>

                                <binding><p>The manuscript is bound in a grey cardboard binding from the time of 
                                    <name type="person" key="JenWeb001">Jens Jacob Weber</name>, i.e. <date from="1771" to="1780">1771-1780</date>.
                                    The shelfmark (including the letter) and the title of the saga were written on the front cover. 
                                    The title was corrected from 
                                    <q>Egils saga Skallagr<ex>ims</ex> s<ex>onar</ex></q> to <q>Egils rímur Skallagr<ex>ims</ex> s<ex>onar</ex></q>.
                                    On the spine, there are remnants of two stickers for the shelfmark and the running number.
                                    The pastedown is made from printed material.</p></binding>

                        <origin>The codicological unit was written in 
                            <origPlace key="IS">Iceland</origPlace>.
                            Kålund dates it to the 
                            <origDate notBefore="1651" notAfter="1700">second half of the seventeenth century</origDate>
                            <bibl><ref target="KKKat">Katalog II</ref>, <biblScope unit="page">24</biblScope></bibl>.

                        <provenance>
                            <p><name key="ArnMag001" type="person" role="owner">Árni Magnússon</name> 
                                received the manuscript, of which this codicological unit was a part, from 
                            <name key="GisJon006" type="person" role="owner">Gísli Jónsson</name> in Mávahlíð 
                            in <date when="1709">1709</date>.
                            Before him, <name key="MagBjo002" type="person" role="owner">Magnús Björnsson</name> 
                            from Bessastaðir in Steingrímsfjörður owned the manuscript until at least <date when="1704">1704</date>
                            (see AM-slip).</p>
