There is modern foliation in pencil in the top margins (1-40).There is earlier pagination in black and brown ink in the top outer corners (161-240). Note: This pagination is the continuation of the pagination in AM 585 d 4to.
There are five quires:
  • Quire I: fols. 1-8 (1+8, 2+7, 3+6, 4+5) (4 bifolia) Note: This is a full original quire.
  • Quire II: fols. 9-16 (9+16, 10+15, 11+14, 12+13) (4 bifolia)
  • Quire III: fols. 17-24 (17+24, 18+23, 19+22, 20+21) (4 bifolia)
  • Quire IV: fols. 25-32 (25+32, 26+31, 27+30, 28+29) (4 bifolia)
  • Quire V: fols. 33-40 (33+40, 34+39, 35+38, 36+37) (4 bifolia)
There are no quire signatures. There are catchwords on every page.
  • The ink is bleeding heavily through the paper, since it is so thin.
  • The paper is partly dirty and has darkened, especially at quire boundaries.
  • On the first page, the ink is fading.
  • The leaves have been trimmed so that some of the marginal notes by the scribes were damaged.
The text is written in one column. 175 mm x 135 mm30-3113-15Note: There are small numbers in the margins to indicate the chapters.
Jón Þórðarson Kurrent Sole
Info: The same scribe wrote AM 345 4to etc.
  • Initial: The initials span ca. 2-6 lines. They are emphasised by means of size and decorated with additional lines.
  • Paratext: The catchwords are decorated with varying squiggles.
  • Paratext: The end of the texts is written in the shape of half a diamond.
  • There are some marginal additions by the scribe.
  • On fol. 8r, a later hand underlined some words with a pencil.

The manuscript is bound in a grey cardboard binding from the time of Jens Jacob Weber, i.e. 1771-1780. The shelfmark (including the letter) and the titles of the sagas were written on the front cover. On the spine, there are remnants of two stickers for the shelfmark and the running number. The pastedown is made from printed material.
There is no additional material.
The codicological unit was written in Iceland by Jón Þórðarson. According to the colophons it was written in 1694-1695.
Jón Jónsson inherited the manuscript, of which this codicological unit is was part, after his father Jón Þórðarson. In 1710, Markús Bergsson gave the larger manuscript to Árni Magnússon, who rearranged the parts. It is not known how the manuscript came to Markús Bergsson, but in his notes, Árni Magnússon mentions that Sigmundur Sæmundsson is said to have been a previous owner (AM 435 a 4to, 82r).

Former Physical Context:
  • When Árni Magnússon acquired the codicological unit it was part of Ms35.
